TaylorMade Gear

For the first time in TaylorMade history, drivers are comprised of more carbon by volume than any other material. In fact, the new family of Stealth 2 Drivers uses almost double the amount of carbon as the original Stealth. That’s a massive leap in just one year’s time.

To make it happen, several distinct features seamlessly flow together in a true marriage of materials, manufacturing and design to yield a high-performance driver with top-end ball speeds along with the advanced forgiveness you would typically expect from a high MOI construction. That, my friends, is Fargiveness. A blend of multi-materials and precise manufacturing methods to deliver increased forgiveness without sacrificing ball speed or distance.

The key feature of the new construction: The Carbon-Reinforced Composite Ring. It weighs in at 19g, which is 2g lighter than the previous forged aluminum ring in SIM2. Those mass savings were then re-distributed to other locations in the club head that are more beneficial to optimize mass properties, a.k.a. delivering increased forgiveness.

“The modular carbon body construction of Stealth 2 represents our commitment to carbon as the leading material in every TaylorMade driver we produce. It was clear that the breakthroughs we had with Stealth were just the beginning in terms of the performance we can extract from this technology platform. A primarily carbon-based head construction is revolutionizing where we are able to position mass in a driver and this allows us to finely tune the launch, spin and MOI in each of the three Stealth 2 driver models.”
Tomo Bystedt, Senior Director Product Creation, Carbonwood™ and Metalwoods

An added benefit of this construction is improved club head stability, defined as twist resistance when the club face strikes the ball at an impact location other than the sweet spot. This “twisting” can cause a loss of ball speed, change in launch angle and change in backspin – all of which are distance killers. The Stealth 2 design helps you to maintain ball speed and performance on off-center strikes. Just check out this video from Team TaylorMade if you need more proof.

Now that we’ve seen it in action, back to the golf-nerd details you’re here for. The four major components of Stealth 2 are:

  • The previously discussed Carbon-Reinforced Composite Ring.
  • A cast titanium collar with a carbon face.
  • Full carbon sole and top panels.
  • A concentrated rear weight.
Exploded Head

The ring unites all these pieces into a singular force of golf ball demolishing power. Overall, this construction is the solution to freeing up more mass so that discretionary weight can be placed where it matters most to promote forgiveness without sacrificing properties required to maintain max distance.

Stealth 2 is truly the next step in the evolution of driver performance, delivering consistently fast ball speeds with a higher degree of forgiveness across the club face. The key to unlocking it all? The Carbon Reinforced Composite Ring.
