Why Team TaylorMade is Ready to Contend at the British Open
Team TaylorMade arrives in Southport, England for the 154th playing of golf's oldest major championship ready to contend. With a combined 37 British Open appearances, Scottie, Rory, Tommy, and Collin bring plenty of historical success, recent form, and three combined victories to this year's tournament on the windswept links of England's North West Coast.
For an in-depth statistical look at Team TaylorMade headed into this year's British Open, we turned to our friend Rick Gehman (@RickRunGood). Here's what we found.
EXPECT A STRONG PERFORMANCE FROM SCOTTIE
It's no surprise that the World No. 1 comes in as one of the favorites this week as the defending champion. After winning in his first start of the year at The American Express, Scottie has repeatedly found himself near the top of the leaderboard, and his stats for 2026 bear that out. He leads in the following categories:
- First in SG: Total: +2.249
- First in SG: Tee-to-Green: +1.737
- First in Greens in Regulation: 72.52%
- First in Scrambling: 67.15%
- First in Scoring Average: 68.18
- First in Birdie Average: 68.18
- First in Birdie or Better Percentage: 27.58%
- First in Bogey Avoidance: 10.22%
- First in Par 4 Scoring Average: 3.89
- First in Official Money: $15,124,575
Scottie's performance at the British Open in particular is also noteworthy.
Since making his debut in 2021, he's gained +2.48 strokes per round in the tournament. That's tied for the most of any other player with a minimum of two starts.
Scottie is also the first player since 1962 to finish inside the top 25 in each of his first five British Open starts (including a win in 2025).
In all his major starts combined, Scottie has gained +2.54 strokes per round, the most of any player dating back to 1997.
Coming off a tied-fourth in the last major, Scottie has now surpassed Tiger Woods in top-five finish percentage in majors at 39.3%.
THE CASE FOR COLLIN
A lot has happened for Collin Morikawa so far in 2026. Along with adding a new member to his family, he has found success between the ropes, highlighted by his win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Coming into this week the 2021 British Open winner's statistical performance is notable. And a lot of it has been thanks to his success on the greens. For the year, he's gained +0.22 strokes per round which is +0.32 better than his career average, and marks a +0.52 increase from 2025.
He's also made 23.1% of his putts from 15'-20' which is up about 7.0% from last year.
Collin has long been known as an elite ball striker, and the stats back up that story so far in 2026. For the year, he ranks first in SG: Approach (+0.86). Even more, he's finished inside the top three in this stat six out of the last seven years.
Additionally, Collin ranks high in the following stats for the 2026 season:
- Second in Birdie Average: 4.59
- Second in Scoring Average (Adjusted): 69.533
- Second in Par 5 Scoring Average: 4.41
- Third in Scoring Average: 68.98
- Fourth in SG: Total: +1.291
- Seventh in Greens in Regulation: 70.53%
- Seventh in Driving Accuracy: 69.41%
- Eighth in Par 4 Scoring Average: 3.97
- 16th in Putting Average: 1.717
RORY IS RIDING HIGH
Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy successfully defended his title this year in Augusta, and there's some strong evidence that makes him a compelling choice this week in Southport.
With his win in Augusta, Rory now has a PGA TOUR win in each of the last six years, the longest active streak. He has also recorded a top-10 finish in a major for 18 consecutive years, which is also the longest active streak.
Additionally, Rory is the only player who gained at least two strokes and has at least two wins in England since 1997 (minimum 10 starts in England).
For the year, Rory ranks high in the following stats amongst players with at least nine starts on the PGA TOUR.
- First in SG: Off the Tee: +0.85
- First in Ball Striking
- Second in SG: Total: +1.83
- Eighth in Birdie or Better Percentage: 24.67%
- Tied Ninth in Birdie Average: 4.32
COULD IT BE TOMMY'S TIME?
There might not be a better story than if Tommy Fleetwood lifted the trophy on Sunday afternoon. This week is a home game for the Southport native and his performance in the British Open has us liking his changes. Since 2018, Tommy has gained +2.00 strokes per round. That's the third most of any other player during that same timeframe.
He also comes into the week averaging 37'7" in approach proximity which is the best of his career.
For the 2026 season, Tommy's performance has been strong, and it wouldn't surprise any of us to see him capture his first major this week.

- Third in SG: Total: +1.377
- Third in SG: Around the Green: +0.520
- Fourth in Scrambling: 66.36%
- Fifth in SG: Tee-to-Green: +1.222
- Fifth in Par 5 Scoring Average: 4.47
- Sixth in Driving Accuracy: 69.44%
- Sixth in Bogey Avoidance: 12.86%
- Seventh in Scoring Average (Adjusted): 69.943
