Angel Ayora Faces First Major Test at the U.S. PGA Championship
This week, Ángel Ayora steps onto golf’s biggest stage as he makes his major championship debut at the U.S. PGA Championship, teeing it up alongside the strongest field in the game at Aronimink Golf Club.
The confirmation came while Ángel was competing on the DP World Tour in Barcelona — a moment that quickly sharpened focus ahead of a career-defining week.
‘I found out when I woke up on Tuesday morning,’ Ángel said. ‘It’s one of those things you dream about as a golfer. To know it’s happening, and that this week I’ll be there, is very special.’
The opportunity reflects the steady progress Ángel has made over the past two seasons, establishing himself as a consistent presence in strong fields. ‘For me, it feels like a big step forward,’ Ángel explained.

Despite the scale of the occasion, Ángel’s approach remains grounded. Preparation stays familiar, built around trust in his routines and belief in the process that has brought him here.
‘I’ll keep doing what I’m doing,’ he said. ‘I don’t think you gain anything by changing too much. Trusting your game and your routines is important in weeks like this.’
That mindset is something those who work closely with Ángel have seen consistently. Mark Thistleton, Senior TaylorMade Tour Representative, believes the stage is well matched to Ángel’s game.

Aronimink presents a demanding test, placing an emphasis on control from the tee, disciplined approach play and patience across all 18 holes.
‘The U.S. PGA Championship is a complete test,’ Ángel said. “Every part of your game is tested here, but from the tee is where I’m most excited to see where I stand.”
With narrow landing areas and demanding green complexes, the course rewards commitment and composure — something Mark sees as a good fit.
‘His strength is undoubtedly his long game which will be tested at the PGA, but speaking with him this week he is excited at the challenge and feels his long game will be an advantage,’ Mark added.
That pressure will be present from the opening tee shot, something Ángel expects and embraces.
‘There will definitely be some nerves,’ he admitted. ‘But I like that feeling. It tells you that you’re in a big moment, and that’s exactly where you want to be.’
Behind him is a close support group that has shaped his journey from the very beginning.
‘My dad took me to a golf course for the first time, and without him I wouldn’t be here,’ Ángel said. ‘Juan, my coach and caddie, and the rest of my team have also been very important along the way.’
Growing up, Ángel watched Spanish players compete — and succeed — on golf’s biggest stages, inspiration that now feels closer than ever.
‘I’ve always looked up to the great Spanish players,’ he said. ‘Watching them compete in majors stayed with me, and now to have my own chance is very exciting.’
As the U.S. PGA Championship gets underway, Ángel’s definition of success remains refreshingly simple.
‘I’m not putting any score expectations on myself,’ he said. ‘I want to enjoy the week, play with freedom and learn as much as I can from the experience.’
This week at Aronimink, Ángel Ayora steps into major championship golf — prepared, confident in his process, and ready for the test that awaits.
